Outdoor Storage Planning Guide
Practical notes from FleetHaven™ to help you prepare for industrial outdoor storage, equipment and materials storage, and truck and trailer parking.
What is industrial outdoor storage?
Industrial outdoor storage is space outside a building for business equipment, materials and other assets. The needs range from machinery between jobs to containers and staged supplies.
Suitability depends on the items, site conditions, permitted uses and handling requirements. A proposed category is not confirmation that an item can be accepted.
Outdoor gravel space is not a warehouse
Outdoor space suits items built to sit outside. Anything that needs a roof, climate control or protection from moisture belongs in a different kind of storage.
Storage and vehicle parking ask different questions
Stored materials may need room for loading and access to individual items. Equipment may have attachments or dimensions beyond its main body. Vehicle parking brings questions about connected combinations, dropped trailers and how often units move.
What to prepare
- Type
- What the item or vehicle is, and anything that needs special handling.
- Dimensions
- Overall length, width and height, including attachments or a connected trailer.
- Quantity
- How many items or units would need space at the same time.
- Duration and movement
- How long you expect to need space and how often things come and go.
- Access
- Loading, unloading or turning room you would need.
